49 Research Committee Report Dr Tapiwa Gundu Chairperson We need to break down barriers between academic disciplines, and create a science and technology hub where all our research activities connect and come together. The School of Natural and Applied Science has carefully considered the research areas in which we wish to be recognised as specialists. The following School research themes are therefore designed to foster discussions at the interface of disciplines such as biology, chemistry, computer science, ICT, mathematical sciences and the like. • Emerging technologies, data science and cybersecurity • Environmental science, climate change and renewable energy • Sustainable resource management for sustainable livelihoods • Biodiversity conservation and agriculture in arid zones For 2021, the School has the following goals: • At least two academics holding new externally funded research grants • At least 25 peer-reviewed publications/conference proceedings accepted for publication in 2021 in DHET accredited journals • Create and consolidate partnerships and collaborations with institutions of interest
