ABOUT CAMPUS SECURITY
The Campus Security Department is a security department that is committed to maintaining the safety and security of the university.
Campus Security operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week at all campuses and external residences.
ProGuard Security is the current main outsourced company for the Residence and Green Route.
The campus is a firearm free zone which means we do not encourage firearms or any dangerous weapon on campus. Campus Security is also currently increasing its staff levels and is in the process of insourcing current security officers.
The Security team is also responsible for:
- Handling requirements of the complainant/informant after reporting a crime
- Providing lecture room and laboratory security tips, vehicle related crime tips, and tips on how to protect your personal possessions.
- Reporting to the South African Police Services (SAPS) where there is a need.
The Department helps to combat crime on campus through increased visibility by its uniformed staff, installed equipment such as CCTV and other deterrents, public education through awareness, and law enforcement.
The Department helps with traffic control to ensure orderly admission of vehicles to campus, free flow of traffic and disciplined use of parking space.
