ACADEMIC CAREER PATH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

The Centre for Teaching, Learning and Programme Development (CTLPD) implements the Career Path Development Programme in conjunction with the Research Office. They work together to support academics towards the proactive and structural advancement of their careers in higher education. Taking cognisance of and in alignment with the University Capacity Development Programme (UCDP), and Staffing South Africa’s Universities Framework (SSAUF) and other national strategies plans, programmes are designed and implemented to support the peculiar needs of each academic (or academics in related categories). Safe spaces are created and material and non-material resources are made available for academics to actualise their desired career development and flourishing. Personal and collective career path developmental aspirations are achieved through interconnected academic research, teaching and learning capacity development programmes. The following and more subset programmes are either already available, envisaged or are being implemented in 2020:
• Academic Induction Programme
• Postgraduate Qualification Financing
• Teaching Mentorship Programme
• Research Mentorship Programme
• Postgraduate Supervision Mentorship Programme
• Mentorship Programme to Women Career Development ETC

E-LEARNING PROGRAMME

The e-learning programme offered by the CTLPD aims to support academics and researchers in the effective use of the Learning Management System (LMS), and staff members are encouraged to attend scheduled and informal workshops to ensure the optimal use of LMS for teaching and learning activities. Furthermore, this portfolio will ensure that seminars and workshops are offered on specific technologies and their affordances, to support teaching and learning and assist academics in their teaching practice with the focus on students and their needs. The CTLPD will deliver a strategic support service to lecturers, researchers and students in the effective pedagogical use of networked computer technologies for teaching and learning. Staff at CTLPD will provide training in the use of the LMS and assist lecturers, researchers and students in designing online teaching and learning material. The system enables lecturers to facilitate the learning process by applying various modes of online teaching. The traditional face-to-face classroom activity is enhanced with synchronous and asynchronous activities.
