Living and Learning Communities
SPU has two types of student accommodation, namely, university owned and accredited off- campus accommodation.
All resident students are provided with a set of rules and guidelines pertaining to matters of governance and management of SPURes. This is known as the Residence Rules.
The rules are directed by a primary consideration of the welfare of our students and creating a residential environment that is at all times, conducive to learning and intellectual engagement as well as personal and social development.
Sol Plaatje University expects that all who live and work in our residences will use these values to guide their behaviour at all times. Students who will be residing in a residence will be expected to sign-off on these conditions and will be held liable for transgressions if any.
SPURes close during the mid-year and end-of-year vacation periods.
Students will be expected to vacate their rooms 48 hours after their last examination.

Accredited off-campus accommodation serves as an extension of the University residences, however, they are privately owned and the duty of the University here is to facilitate and influence where necessary.
Students are offered off-campus accredited accommodation when space is no longer available in the University owned residences. Since all first-year students are required to be accommodated in University owned residences, the accredited off-campus accommodation is then made available for senior students.
Sol Plaatje University assumes no liability, makes no representation for a student, the landlord or third party with regards to the lease to or occupancy of accredited off-campus accommodation by students at the university, unless the student was assigned to a particular residence through a letter of recommendation.
Students assume full responsibility for the selection, use or occupancy of such, based on gender specifications per residence.
The SPURes office does not have control over the management of the accomodation and therefore cannot be held responsible or liable for them. The contractual relationship is between the student and the landlord. SPU shall seek to influence management of these accommodations to provide a measure of quality assurance and the maintenance of acceptable standards.
The SPU residence office shall strive to eliminate circumstances which may be conducive to exploiting students in respect of rental pricing and general living conditions.
