Judge Stevan Arnold Majiedt

Chancellor of Sol Plaatje University

Judge Stevan Majiedt was born in Kenhardt, Northern Cape and was schooled at William Pescod Secondary School, Kimberley.

He obtained his BA (Law) in 1981 at the University of the Western Cape and his LLB in 1983 at the same university.

From 1984 to 1996 he was an advocate at the Cape Bar, Cape Town, Thereafter he was Chief Provincial State Law Adviser for the Northern Cape government from 1997 to 2000. He was appointed Judge of the High Court in Kimberley from 2000 to 2010 and Judge of Appeal for the Supreme Court of Appeal in December 2010.

From January to May, 2014, he was Acting Judge of the Constitutional Court.

Judge Majiedt was Chairperson: Rules Board for Courts of Law in 2015;  

Member of the Council and Executive Committee of the SA Judicial Education Institute and Member of the Hugo de Groot Association.

He is currently the Chancellor of Sol Plaatje University.
