FET Teaching and Intermediate Phase Teaching are specifically designed to prepare students for teaching in the South African schooling system.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">National imperatives such as the shortage of Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Geography and Technology teachers, as well as regional imperatives such as the need for Afrikaans and Setswana teachers in primary and secondary schools in the Northern Cape were important considerations in the design and development of these programmes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><div class=\"show_more\"><p class=\"wpsm-show\" style=\"color: #D23443; font-size: 100%; text-align: left;\"> More<\/p><div class=\"wpsm-content\"><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is intended for students who want to obtain a degree in Education, specialising in Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Life Sciences, Geography, Technology, History, Afrikaans, English, isiXhosa or Setswana that would qualify them as professional educators for the Senior Phase and Further Education and Training or Intermediate Phase.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">These qualifications are also suitable for expertise in education-related careers such as training officials<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino;\">The purpose of the BEd degree is to provide a well-rounded education that will empower graduates with an integrated knowledge base enabling them to demonstrate competence, commitment and responsibility as academically and professionally qualified beginner teachers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The curriculum and the accompanying classroom practice is a shaping force of the students admitted to this University. The approach to teaching, learning development and assessment on this degree programme is strongly guided by the intellectual and professional attributes that our graduates need to develop in order to have a positive impact on the schooling needs of the diverse communities in our country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The following aims will assist in exploring and fulfilling the purpose of the BEd Degree:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>provision of subject\/discipline knowledge;<\/li>\n<li>provision of pedagogical content knowledge;<\/li>\n<li>fostering self-reflexivity and self-understanding to enable commitment to the highest level of professional work ethics;<\/li>\n<li>development of students as active citizens who will respond to and initiate change, and<\/li>\n<li>development of competencies to organise learning among a wide range of learners in diverse contexts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Minimum&nbsp;requirements<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The rules of the University in respect of admission to degree study are applicable for admission to this degree.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Students must be in possession of a National Senior Certificate and a minimum admission points (AP) score of 30. The purpose of the PGCE programme is to provide a well-rounded education to pre-service teachers without a teaching qualification that will equip graduates with an integrated knowledge base enabling them to demonstrate applied competence, commitment and responsibility as academically and professionally qualified beginner teachers.<\/p><p>The following aims will assist in exploring and fulfilling the purpose of the PGCE certificate:<\/p><p>development of students\u2019 pedagogical content knowledge;<br \/>fostering self-reflexivity and self-understanding to enable commitment to the highest level of professional work ethics;<br \/>development of students as active citizens who will respond to and initiate change;<br \/>development of competences to organise learning among a diverse range of learners in diverse contexts.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Minimum requirements:<\/strong><br \/>The General Rules of SPU in respect of admission to Postgraduate Diploma studies (aligned with the HEQSF) are applicable to this postgraduate certificate.<br \/>1.0 The admission to the Post Graduate Certificate in Education is also subject to the SPU\u2019s Policy on Admissions and the discretion of the Registrar in the School of Education at the SPU.<br \/>2.0 A student who wishes to apply for a Post Graduate Certificate in Education should adhere to the following admission requirements:<br \/>3.1 An approved Bachelor\u2019s degree at an exit NQF Level 7, or an appropriate 360-credit exit NQF level 6 Diploma.<br \/>3.2 The Bachelor\u2019s degree or the diploma should include two recognised school subjects as outlined in Section B of this document.<br \/>4.1 To specialise in <strong>one FET school subject<\/strong>, the Bachelor\u2019s degree or diploma should include <strong>a major module<\/strong> (that qualifies as a school approved subject) with a credit load of at least 48 credits at a NQF level 7 that stretches over 2 to 3 academic years.<br \/>4.2 In addition to the FET school subject, one other major module (that qualifies as a school approved subject) from the Bachelor\u2019s degree or diploma, with at least a <strong>credit load<\/strong> of <strong>24 credits<\/strong> at a <strong>NQF level 6<\/strong> that stretches <strong>over one academic year<\/strong> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">should be selected as a <strong>SP school subject<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p><p>This will allow the student to specialise in one FET and one SP school subject.<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spu.ac.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/PGCE-1-360x173.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-66276\" src=\"https:\/\/www.spu.ac.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/PGCE-1-300x144.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.spu.ac.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/PGCE-1-300x144.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.spu.ac.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/PGCE-1-360x173.jpg 360w, https:\/\/www.spu.ac.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/PGCE-1.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/a><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">5.0 The SPU\u2019s Policy on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) will be applied in instances where applicants do not meet the minimum admission requirements for entry into the Post Graduate Certificate in Education programme.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">6.0 Equity and access considerations will also be taken into account without risking the integrity of the programme.<\/p><p><strong>Programme Structure<\/strong><br \/>Programme code: EPG700<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Postgraduate Certificate in Education consists of 8 modules over a period of a year.
