For the SPU Women\u2019s Rugby Team, the tournament represented an opportunity to showcase their growth, resilience, and determination on the national stage.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The road to the championship was built on months of preparation and sacrifice. Balancing demanding academic responsibilities with rigorous training schedules, players dedicated countless hours to maintaining their fitness and refining their skills. Following an intensive preparation period, a squad of 26 players were selected to represent SPU at the tournament.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Dominant Start to the Campaign<\/strong><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">SPU opened their campaign on 29 June against the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wits.ac.za\/\">University of the Witwatersrand<\/a><\/span>. Despite a rushed start and limited time to complete their pre-match preparations, the team quickly found their rhythm and produced a commanding performance. SPU secured a convincing 47-0 victory, setting the tone for the tournament.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The team returned to action on 1 July in their semi-final clash against the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ul.ac.za\/\">University of Limpopo<\/a><\/span>. An early departure and meticulous preparation ensured the players arrived focused and ready for the challenge. The ladies dominated proceedings from the outset, building a substantial lead in the first half before ultimately recording an emphatic 58-0 victory. The result secured their place in the championship final and confirmed qualification for the 2027 Varsity Cup competition.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Champions Crowned<\/strong><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On 3 July saw SPU face <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dut.ac.za\/\">Durban University of Technology (DUT)<\/a><\/span> in a championship final contest.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With an SPU made an impressive start, DUT fought back strongly in the second half, but SPU\u2019s determination, defensive discipline, and unwavering commitment proved decisive.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The SPU Women\u2019s team managed to secure a memorable 36-22 victory, clinching the title.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">SPU concluded the championship with an exceptional record:<\/p><ul style=\"text-align: justify;\"><li><strong>Matches Played:<\/strong> 3<\/li><li><strong>Wins:<\/strong> 3<\/li><li><strong>Losses:<\/strong> 0<\/li><li><strong>Draws:<\/strong> 0<\/li><li><strong>Points Scored:<\/strong> 141<\/li><li><strong>Points Conceded:<\/strong> 22<\/li><\/ul><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Final standings in the Women\u2019s B Division were:<\/p><ol style=\"text-align: justify;\"><li>Sol Plaatje University<\/li><li>Durban University of Technology<\/li><li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tut.ac.za\/\">Tshwane University of Technology<\/a><\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cput.ac.za\/\">Cape Peninsula University of Technology<\/a><\/span><\/li><\/ol><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Several SPU players received individual honours for their outstanding performances throughout the tournament:<\/p><ul style=\"text-align: justify;\"><li><strong>Player of the Tournament:<\/strong> Rudeen Beukes<\/li><li><strong>Top Try Scorer:<\/strong> Maserati Bangaza<\/li><li><strong>Best Forward:<\/strong> Siziphiwe Dubulamanzi and Mulalo Sibasa<\/li><li><strong>Best Backline Player:<\/strong> Tyrell Wilson<\/li><\/ul><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>A Historic Achievement for SPU<\/strong><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The team\u2019s success reflects the dedication and hard work of the players, coaching staff, medical team, support personnel, and university leadership who contributed to the campaign.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As celebrations continue, attention now turns to the next challenge.
