At the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) Annual General Meeting held earlier this year Sol Plaatje University\u2019s Chief Financial Officer, Annalene Marais, was elected as a member of the SAICA Central Region Council and Chairperson of the Kimberley District Association.<\/p>

In her role as Chairperson, Ms Marais will serve the institute for a period of up to five years by ensuring the continued relevance of the accounting profession, its growth and transformation, and growing the institute\u2019s thought leadership standing, both locally and internationally.<\/p>

\u201cServing as a member of the SAICA Central Region Council provides me with a platform to live out my passion for the accounting profession whilst making a positive impact in the community,\u201d commented Ms Marais.<\/p>

SAICA\u2019s regional council\u2019s goal is to facilitate active participation of members in regional, functional and technical committees.<\/p>

The council further works in conjunction with regional offices of the institute to implement national strategy through facilitating activities at a regional and district level such as networking, knowledge sharing and community-based activities.<\/p>

With a passion for people and the accounting profession, Ms Marais stated that \u201cmy aim is to actively support the institute in the furtherance of their strategic priorities. These include, inter alia, growing and transforming the profession, making a quantifiable social contribution through nation building and ensuring sustainability of the accounting profession\u201d.<\/p>

She concluded by saying that \u201cI believe that these goals become even more relevant during these trying times faced by societies and as a country\u201d.<\/p>

Sol Plaatje University congratulates Ms Annalene Marais on her appointment and wishes her well in these important positions.<\/p>
