{"id":15375,"date":"2021-03-31T11:07:20","date_gmt":"2021-03-31T09:07:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.spu.ac.za\/index.php\/information-first-time-entering-students-copy\/"},"modified":"2021-03-31T12:31:47","modified_gmt":"2021-03-31T10:31:47","slug":"commencement-of-academic-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spu.ac.za\/index.php\/commencement-of-academic-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Commencement of the academic year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear SPU Staff and Students<\/p>\n<p>I want to wish all our staff and students well for this new academic year which began on Monday, 29 March 2021. We did not have a smooth start due to the disruptions related to the SAUS call for a national shutdown of the higher education sector, but I hope that the remainder of this year will be peaceful and productive.<\/p>\n<p>Our <span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a style=\"color: #000000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.spu.ac.za\/index.php\/student-representative-council\/\">SRC<\/a> <\/span>submitted several demands to the University Management which we have addressed. Both parties met to resolve a few outstanding issues and I am happy to report that we reached an agreement on the following matters:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the University is not in a position to scrap students\u2019 historic debt,<\/li>\n<li>there will be a more flexible payment arrangement for students of the upfront payment required for registration,<\/li>\n<li>there was agreement on the way forward in terms of the provision of data; replacement of laptop batteries or the device itself; and matters related to overall student support.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We will now proceed with the academic year as per the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/31sNSh8\"><strong>revised academic calendar<\/strong><\/a><\/span> that was approved by Senate last week.<\/p>\n<p>We look forward to continuing the dialogue with the SRC so that Sol Plaatje University can continue to provide excellent student-centred services for our students to be academically successful.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Kind regards<\/p>\n<p>Professor Andrew Crouch<\/p>\n<p>Vice-Chancellor and Principal<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dear SPU Staff and Students I want to wish all our staff and students well for this new academic year which began on Monday, 29 March 2021.
