{"id":31348,"date":"2022-06-08T16:25:52","date_gmt":"2022-06-08T14:25:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.spu.ac.za\/index.php\/residences-unit-hosts-first-official-spu-residences-academic-awards-copy\/"},"modified":"2022-06-09T11:10:45","modified_gmt":"2022-06-09T09:10:45","slug":"spu-support-staff-honoured-at-adult-education-and-training-programme-awards-ceremony-for-obtaining-matric-subject-distinctions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spu.ac.za\/index.php\/spu-support-staff-honoured-at-adult-education-and-training-programme-awards-ceremony-for-obtaining-matric-subject-distinctions\/","title":{"rendered":"Support staff honoured at Adult Education &#038; Training programme awards ceremony for obtaining matric-subject distinctions"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"31348\" class=\"elementor elementor-31348\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-4c891cce elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"4c891cce\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-6a345ff7\" data-id=\"6a345ff7\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-71cfc1c2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"71cfc1c2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">There were cheers and ululation as the first group of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spu.ac.za\">Sol Plaatje University (SPU)<\/a><\/span> support staff members who took part in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foodbev.co.za\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">FoodBev SETA<\/span><\/a> &#8211; and SPU- funded Adult Education and Training (AET) programme received their Le<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">arning Area Certificates<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The SPU AET programme awards ceremony was held at South Campus on 6 June 2022 and honoured <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spu.ac.za\/index.php\/celebration-as-support-staff-achieve-matric-subject-distinctions\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">16<\/span><\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> SPU support staff members<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> who achieved a 100% pass rate <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in the two learning areas<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> they completed over three months last year.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The AET programme is offered to staff by SPU\u2019s Human Resources Department and is aimed at empowering staff by helping them to work towards a National Senior Certificate (NSC\/Grade 12 \/Matric). <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The proud students were dressed to the nines to celebrate their achievements at the award ceremony and sang the praises of the University for enabling them to develop themselves. <\/span><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">SPU Vice-Chancellor and Principal Professor Andrew Crouch implored staff members to continue investing in themselves.\u00a0 \u201cYou do not win a prize if you don\u2019t put in the effort,\u201d he said. \u201cI congratulate you and your families and remind you that the University is prepared to invest in you, and the people who supported you.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Prof Crouch highlighted the importance of staff giving back to their communities to pass on the baton of education to their peers. \u201cCongratulations on taking up the challenge and completing it. As long as you are interested in your development, I will support you.\u201d <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Ms Kedibone Mothelesi, an A<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">cting<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Catering Supervisor at SPU, said she grew up illiterate, and being given this opportunity has given her confidence at work and as a mother. \u201cEducation plays a big role. My life has changed. I have gained self-confidence. As a small business owner, I can now do calculations. Thank you, SPU, for the support.\u201d <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Ms Lydia Klaas, a cleaner at SPU, thanked the staff for their continuous support. \u201cI am not an English native speaker, so I was always shy whenever I had to speak English. Since doing the English AET class I have now gained confidence speaking in public, and my maths skills have improved.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">SPU congratulates all the learners who worked so hard to make themselves, their families, and their University proud.
