Sol Plaatje University was honoured to host the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Mr Buti Manamela and his personal staff on Wednesday, 23 January 2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The purpose of Mr Manamela\u2019s visit was to undertake a readiness check on our arrangements for Registration which begins on Monday, 28 January 2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Professor Mary\nJean Baxen, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, provided a context within which our Registration\nshould be assessed, that is, in terms of our growing enrolment and student\nprofile, our core values, our academic vision and our evolving academic plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
SRC members\nassured and confirmed to the Deputy Minister the University\u2019s level and degree\nof readiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe University is\nready and can even register students tomorrow,\u201d they added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The SRC voiced their\nconcerns about the possible changes to the funding available from SETAs and\nwhether the NSFAS readiness would work as well in practice as intended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Other concerns\nexpressed were around matters of clearing the backlog of late applications and\nfunding for those who had applied late. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The effectiveness\nof the current Central Applications Clearing House and the future Central\nApplications Service were also discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Members of NEHAWU\nexpressed their desire to be part of wider University processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
