{"id":4471,"date":"2019-03-06T08:28:02","date_gmt":"2019-03-06T06:28:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/spu\/?p=4471"},"modified":"2022-01-26T21:16:25","modified_gmt":"2022-01-26T19:16:25","slug":"data-science-honours-student-puts-spu-on-the-map","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spu.ac.za\/index.php\/data-science-honours-student-puts-spu-on-the-map\/","title":{"rendered":"Atsile puts SPU Data Science on the map"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SPU\u2019s Data Science Honours programme began on a high note this year with the University receiving a mention in Minister Ebrahim Patel\u2019s speech at the closing of the SONA debate<g class=\"gr_ gr_20 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Style replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"20\" data-gr-id=\"20\">.<\/g><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><g class=\"gr_ gr_20 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Style replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"20\" data-gr-id=\"20\">In<\/g> the speech, which highlighted the need for new skills as data skills, the Minister pointed out that Sol Plaatje University was empowering students such as <g class=\"gr_ gr_12 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace\" id=\"12\" data-gr-id=\"12\">Atsile<\/g> Itumeleng, one of the university\u2019s Data Science Honours students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Atsile says that the honour\nof the mention came unexpectedly and with some pressure.&nbsp; However, \u201cthis is really a start for SPU which\nwas the first university to offer this programme in Africa.&nbsp; And it is great timing to stand out when new\nskills are needed and are in short supply.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/localhost\/spu\/index.php\/sciences-programmes-bsc-datascience\/\">Data Science <\/a>incorporates many other fields, one that fosters skills and innovation while at the same it attracts investments and opens doors of opportunity,\u201d he explains.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SPU\u2019s Data Science Honours programme began on a high note this year with the University receiving a mention in Minister Ebrahim Patel\u2019s speech at the closing of the SONA debate.
