Three academics from the School of Natural and Applied Sciences<\/a> accompanied six Data Science<\/a> Honours students to an intensive week-long bootcamp at the University of Pretoria<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The team stayed at Future Africa, which is aiming to be a centre for developing future academics and scientists in many areas.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n


The academics, Dr Alfred Mwanza, Dr Tapiwa Gundu and Malvin Nkomo were on hand while students, Atsile Itumeleng, Omphemetse Mangope, Charles Mathewson, Olatomiwa Akinlaja, Vernon Kok, Kudzai Sibanda joined with their counterparts at the University of Pretoria for orientation week.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n


The week focused on the research component of the honours degree which included research design, writing and presentation.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n


In addition, the students experienced hands-on skills training in Latex, SAS, R and Python.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n


Various researchers also shared their own research journey experiences with the students.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n


The University of Pretoria\u2019s Prof Andriette Bekker and Dr Frans Kanfer facilitated the bootcamp.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n


During the visit, the staff and students also met with the team from the Presidential Infrastructure Coordinating Commission.<\/p>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
