{"id":58982,"date":"2023-10-19T10:12:37","date_gmt":"2023-10-19T08:12:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.spu.ac.za\/index.php\/unveiling-spus-decade-of-excellence-digital-hub-copy\/"},"modified":"2023-10-19T15:36:44","modified_gmt":"2023-10-19T13:36:44","slug":"collaboration-inspiring-student-entrepreneurship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.spu.ac.za\/index.php\/collaboration-inspiring-student-entrepreneurship\/","title":{"rendered":"Collaboration inspiring student entrepreneurship"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"58982\" class=\"elementor elementor-58982\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-1053a37f elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"1053a37f\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-711f2f1a\" data-id=\"711f2f1a\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6edea3b2 elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6edea3b2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is important for South African students to partake in entrepreneurial initiatives and opportunities made available to them so that they can be empowered to own businesses.\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Recently, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.vukuzenzele.gov.za\/\">Vuk\u2019uzenzele Newspaper<\/a><\/span> held a dialogue with youth in Kimberly in the Northern Cape through its Vuk Talks initiative, in partnership with the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.spu.ac.za\">Sol Plaatje University<\/a> <\/span>(SPU) as part of their annual Student Entrepreneur Week.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Vuk Talks is a quarterly community engagement that is carried out by Vuk\u2019uzenzele newspaper to interact with communities, readers and organisations that advance community empowerment.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It created a platform for approximately 100 students at SPU to have a conversation about entrepreneurship and provided information on how to go about starting a business.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The youth were also empowered with information about career opportunities, skills development, and pitching for funding.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Economic Activation Officer at the SPU, Chad Lucas encouraged students to participate in initiatives that are aimed at improving their lives.<\/p><div class=\"block\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><div id=\"block-tailwindcss-content\"><article class=\"node\" role=\"article\"><div class=\"node-content\"><div><p>Representing the provincial <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.northern-cape.gov.za\/dedat\/index.php\">Department of Economic Development and Tourism<\/a><\/span> (DEDAT), Daryll Christians encouraged students to identify industries that they are interested in and research relevant opportunities including funding they can benefit from.<\/p><p>\u201cOur department offers funding specifically to entrepreneurs in townships and rural areas. We encourage existing businesses to apply for equipment to the amount of R100 000,\u201d he said.<\/p><p>Kagisho Monyatsi of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.harambee.co.za\/\">Harambe Youth Employment Accelerator<\/a><\/span> emphasised the need for upcoming business owners to utilise services available at their institution.<\/p><p>\u201cSome of our services include upskilling unemployed youth and empowering entrepreneurs with information that helps them to successfully apply for funding,\u201d he explained.<\/p><p>Vuk Talks also held a similar dialogue session with students at <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westcol.co.za\/\">Westcol TVET College<\/a><\/span> in Randfontein.
