The institution has confidently grown since its inauguration in 2014, leading up to this momentous occasion where these young, beautiful, courageous minds seated in front of me, will grow to be responsible citizens, taking up positions of responsibility in the different sectors of our economy,\u201d said Ms Morris. She further emphasised resilience and perseverance encouraging these individuals to continue their journey towards success within the coming years ahead.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In his welcome address to the first-year students, Prof Crouch praised their resilience for overcoming the challenges that led them here. Prof Crouch encouraged the new students to embrace this next phase in their journey, where growth, transformation and maturing are inevitable but will also bring conflict within themselves or with others. However intimidating it may seem at times, he reminded everyone that these changes serve a greater purpose: improving oneself as an individual. \u201cWhilst you grow, whilst you transform, whilst you discover, whilst you change, you must never forget one thing: never forget where you come from, and who assisted you to get to where you are today. Never forget your\u00a0roots,\u201d he said.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Prof Crouch concluded his speech with a poignant passage from the musical &#8220;Les Miserable&#8221;, which he loves for its embodiment of humanity&#8217;s perseverance. The song touchingly captures a spectrum of human emotions, weaving together love, empathy, and hope against a backdrop of despair and hardship. It explores themes of justice in the face of inequality and the transformative power of forgiveness, ultimately leading to a narrative of redemption.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Letlhogonolo Thintha, President of the SPU Student Representative Council (SRC) 2023\/2024, extended a warm and energetic welcome to all first-year students. He said that the SRC was there to ensure they have a smooth transition into university life. \u201cLet us make waves, break barriers and redefine what it takes to be true Gemmies. Dive into the rich tapestry of academics, clubs and events that awaits you. This is your time to shine, explore and make your mark. The SRC is here to support you every step of the way,\u201d he encouraged our new students.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ms Morris concluded the ceremony by exhorting students to remain committed to the dreams that led them here despite any obstacles they may encounter along the way. She encouraged them to believe, achieve and explore.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The #MySPU community extends a warm welcome to all first-year students at SPU!
