The initiative, which took place on 26 and 27 March 2024, aims to enhance the security of students and staff alike.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Prof Debra Meyer, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching and Learning, emphasised the collaboration&#8217;s significance for uninterrupted teaching and learning by bolstering campus security. Brigadier Shumani from SAPS introduced the Learning Environment Safety Framework, highlighting its role in safeguarding students across South African educational institutions.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mr Lucky Khumela,\u00a0Deputy Head of Campus Security Operations,\u00a0discussed the essential link between education and safety, while Ms Nicole Morris, Dean of Student Affairs, focused on the importance of the partnership to address one of the most pressing issues of our time, societal crime and gender-based violence and femicide in the tertiary environment.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The SPU Student Representative Council for 2023\/24 pledged to ensure a welcoming campus atmosphere, stressing the need for collaborative efforts with SAPS to support students and address safety concerns, particularly around gender-based violence and abuse.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This partnership signifies SPU&#8217;s strong commitment to safety, which fosters \u00a0an environment conducive to learning and professional growth.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sol Plaatje University (SPU) and the South African Police Service (SAPS) have launched the SPU-SAPS Campus Safety Desk.
