On 20 April 2024, Sol Plaatje University<\/a><\/span> (SPU) celebrated its 9th graduation ceremony at the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre, commemorating both the 2023 graduating class and a decade of academic excellence. The event unfolded in two sessions, with the first session honouring graduates from the Faculties of Humanities, Economic and Management Sciences, and Natural and Applied Sciences, and the second session dedicated to the Faculty of Education.<\/p>\n

This was a day to celebrate the culmination of years of hard work and perseverance. Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Teaching and Learning, Prof Debra Meyer, captured the spirit of the occasion, when she said, \u201cToday we celebrate not just your academic achievements, but the collective journey \u2013 enriched by the support of your lecturers, mentors and loved ones.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prof Malegapuru William Makgoba, an esteemed immunologist and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of KwaZulu-Natal<\/a><\/span>, delivered the keynote address in the first session. He emphasised the graduates\u2019 dedication, saying, \u201cYour success is not solely your own \u2013 it\u2019s also a tribute to the unwavering support of your families and the dedicated staff at SPU. Today\u2019s celebration is a trinity of achievement, unity, and shared purpose, reflecting a deep bond akin to that of the Holy Trinity.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the second session Prof Nico Koopman, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Social Impact, Transformation and Personnel at Stellenbosch University<\/a><\/span>, addressed our future educators. He inspired them to contribute positively to society and to uphold the values of their alma mater, stating, \u201cSPU has nourished you, and now, as alumni, you carry forward our legacy of striving for a better, more enlightened society.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Class of 2023 joins over 3 000 SPU alumni \u2013 who become competent and capable citizens who are able to realise the aspirations of society. This is a significant institutional achievement during our decade of academic excellence and success.<\/p>\n
