Sol Plaatje University (SPU)<\/span><\/a> proudly hosted the Northern Cape launch of the Teaching for All programme on 30 July 2025. This marked a significant step forward in advancing inclusive education in the province. The teacher professional development initiative is led by the British Council<\/span><\/a> in partnership with the Department of Basic Education<\/span><\/a>, the Northern Cape Department of Education<\/span><\/a>, and SPU.<\/span><\/p>

The programme is designed to strengthen the capacity of teacher educators, student teachers, in-service teachers and policymakers by embedding inclusive teaching modules into the core training frameworks of universities and provincial education departments. Its long-term goal is to contribute to a thriving, inclusive and equitable South African education system where every teacher is equipped to create joyful and effective learning environments that support all learners in reaching their full potential.<\/span><\/p>

In her welcoming remarks, SPU\u2019s Acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Debra Meyer, highlighted how the programme aligns with the university\u2019s mission and its strong commitment to social justice and educational equity.<\/span><\/p>

\u201cInclusive education is already integrated into the core of our academic programmes and research agenda,\u201d she said. \u201cThis launch represents a powerful convergence: a convergence of values, policies and practice, a convergence of passion and purpose.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

The event included remarks from key partners, each emphasising the shared commitment to transforming education in support of all learners.<\/span><\/p>

Mr Sandile Beuzana, Chief Director for School Administration Management and Support at the Northern Cape Department of Education, acknowledged the important role of the British Council and SPU as partners. He also affirmed the Department\u2019s responsibility in supporting initiatives that strengthen teacher development. He encouraged the participating educators to share the knowledge and tools they gain through the programme with their peers, reinforcing the message that no learner should be left behind.<\/span><\/p>

Mr Glen Allies, Head of English and School Education at the British Council South Africa, provided an overview of the programme. He explained that the initiative is delivered over a six-month period through four structured units. The first three focus on inclusive education theory, while the final unit involves practical application in the classroom.<\/span><\/p>

The launch concluded with an orientation and training session for lead educators, laying the groundwork for the next phase of implementation. A consistent call to action from all partners urged educators, institutions and policymakers to ensure that every teacher is equipped to create inclusive, learner-centred classrooms.<\/span><\/p>

SPU, through the Faculty of Education<\/span><\/a>, is proud to contribute to this important national effort.
