Graduation Information
The 2025 Sol Plaatje University Graduation Ceremony represents a ceremonial rite of passage - a vibrant expression of who we are: a university changing lives and enabling brighter futures.
This milestone speaks directly to our mission: to graduate citizens who are competent, capable, and committed to transforming their communities and the broader world. As we gather to honour your achievements, we also celebrate the values of equity, inclusion, innovation and academic excellence that define SPU’s bold journey into the next decade.
This celebration is core to the University’s strategic focus on student centricity and holistic development, proudly demonstrating the outcome of high-quality academic programming and a supportive institutional culture.
Ceremony Schedule & Qualifications
Graduation 2025 will take place over two days, with three ceremonial sessions scheduled to confer degrees and diplomas across four faculties, at the SPU Great Hall, North Campus (opposite Luka Jantjie House). Graduands and guests are kindly reminded to observe arrival times strictly – late arrivals will not be permitted into the venue once the ceremony has commenced.

Tickets
Graduands will receive 4 tickets (1 ticket for the graduand and 3 guest tickets). Please take note of the important ticket collection schedule below:
Collection Dates & Times:
Wednesday, 16 April: 09:00 – 16:00
Thursday, 17 April: 09:00 – 16:00
Tuesday, 22 April: 09:00 – 16:00
Wednesday, 23 April: 09:00 – 18:00
Thursday, 24 April: 09:00 – 18:00
Venue: Luka Jantjie House - Admissions Department (Foyer)
Please bring your student card or ID. Tickets will only be issued to the graduand.
Please note, if you will not be attending your graduation ceremony your tickets may not be sold or transferred to another graduand or guest. Instances where graduands have acquired additional tickets or been given tickets by another graduand may find access to the ceremony for these additional tickets denied.
The event will be livestreamed for broader access.

Academic Regalia
Academic regalia signals your belonging to the global community of scholars. It also reflects SPU’s growing stature as a university of innovation, multilingual expression, and academic quality.
The University's approved service provider for the Academic Regalia is Dippenaar & Reinecke Academic Wear. Click here for more information on how to place an order.
The academic regalia can be collected from 24 - 26 April 2025 from 08:00 - 17:00 at the SPU North Campus, Luka Jantjie House (graduands must look out for signage for direction).
In the event that graduands did not hire or purchase their academic attire before graduation, they will be allowed to do so at the graduation venue.
Photography and Social Media
The University's approved service provider for graduation photography is Gordon Harris Photographic, and will be the only official photographer allowed to take photos while graduands walk the stage. Graduands are requested to contact them directly to place an order. Click below to download the booking forms:
SPU media photographers will be onsite to capture the joy, pride, and unforgettable moments of your graduation day - a celebration of your hard work, perseverance and a future filled with promise.
We also encourage you to take and share your own photos on your personal platforms. Don’t forget to tag us in your posts and use hasgtags #SPUGraduation2025 and #MySPU - we’ll be resharing your special moments on SPU’s official channels.

Academic Regalia
As you prepare for your graduation, please take a moment to watch this video, which outlines the regalia codes for the different faculties. Graduands are advised to pay close attention to these guidelines to ensure that they adhere to the correct academic regalia for the ceremony.
Graduating with Outstanding Fees
Graduates with fees outstanding will be allowed to walk the stage but will not be issued with a qualification certificate until the required fees have been settled.
How will I obtain my certificate?
Certificates will be available for collection on the day of your graduation ceremony for those that are permitted and able to attend the in-person ceremony.
If a graduate cannot attend the ceremony or collect their certificate on the day of their graduation ceremony, they must arrange for collection by contacting graduations@spu.ac.za
Please note, certificates are only issued to graduates who have settled all their University fees. Once all fees have been settled you may contact graduations@spu.ac.za to obtain your certificate.
