Welcome to the Faculty of Education

It is with great pleasure and genuine enthusiasm that I extend a warm welcome to you to the Faculty of Education. Our faculty comprises three dynamic and interrelated departments: Mathematics, Science and Technology Teaching; Human Sciences Teaching; and Education Studies. Each department plays a vital role in preparing future educators who are equipped to meet the diverse needs of learners in an ever-changing world.

The Faculty of Education offers a comprehensive range of qualifications designed to support your professional growth at every stage. At the undergraduate level, we offer the Bachelor of Education (BEd) across key teaching phases and specialisations. For graduates who wish to pursue teaching as a profession, we offer the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

At the postgraduate level, students may advance their studies through Bachelor of Education Honours (BEd Honours) programmes, Master of Education (MEd) degrees in various specialisations, and will offer Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Education programmes soon. These qualifications are designed to deepen professional knowledge, enhance research capacity, and contribute meaningfully to educational practice, innovation and policy.

By choosing to enrol in the Faculty of Education, you are taking an important step toward becoming an agent of meaningful change. As a future teacher and leader, you will have the opportunity to shape minds, inspire growth, and positively influence the lives of countless learners. This is both a privilege and a responsibility, and we are committed to supporting you throughout this journey.

Our faculty is made up of dedicated and highly experienced staff who are engaged in impactful on-campus (supported by innovative online) teaching. Their work is grounded in research and enriched by practical experience, enabling them to provide a balanced and relevant educational experience. Importantly, our staff are committed to recognizing and nurturing each student as an individual, understanding that each brings unique strengths, perspectives, and circumstances.

Guided by the core values of diversity, integrity, accountability, lifelong learning, and empathy, we strive to cultivate an inclusive and supportive academic environment. These values shape our teaching, our interactions, and our commitment to excellence, ensuring that we not only educate but also inspire responsible and compassionate educators.

At the heart of our work lies a shared mission: to create, disseminate, and apply knowledge that informs and transforms educational policy and practice at both local and global levels. Together, we aim to contribute to a knowledge-driven society by advancing ideas and innovations that make a tangible difference in people’s lives.

I encourage you to engage deeply with your studies by continuously reflecting on what you would teach, how you would teach, why you would teach, and who you would teach. Approach your journey with kindness, empathy, and respect, as these values are essential in building meaningful relationships with learners.

I urge you to remain curious, committed, and proactive in your pursuit of knowledge. As you progress, continue to seek new insights and solutions to address the evolving challenges within education and society. Your dedication and passion will not only shape your own future but also contribute to the amelioration of communities at large.
