Reflecting on an exhilarating run of events, we’re thrilled to announce the impressive achievements of our Gemmie teams at the University Sports South Africa (USSA) Winter Games 2023.
The athletes, representing Sol Plaatje University (SPU), showcased exceptional talent and grit on the winter sports arena, validating the anticipation and excitement generated in the heartfelt send-off at South Campus.
Their performances were spurred on by the resounding words of Ms Elmien Cloete, Senior Manager for Sports, and the inspiring guidance of their captains, who urged them to embrace the challenges and grow in their respective teams at the farewell function on the eve of the games. “Challenge yourselves and strive for excellence as you participate in these games. Embrace the challenge. The competition may be fierce, the pressure may be high but that is where you grow in your teams. Have fun, create memories and let them feel the Gemmie Fire!” urged Ms Cloete.
The Gemmies took these words to heart, braving fierce competition and high-pressure situations, and truly embodied the spirit of #GemmieFire. They demonstrated a relentless pursuit of excellence, proving that they are not just participants, but formidable contenders in the winter sports arena. Now, we take pride in sharing the incredible results they’ve earned.
