The Library and Information Services has introduced a new library system Alma and its discovery tool, Primo VE.
Primo VE is a leading library discovery tool, developed specifically for a modern academic library in the 21st century. It is used by over 1000 leading academic libraries in the world, including Ivy League University libraries in the United States of America.
Primo VE is a cutting-edge discovery tool that knows no bounds when it comes to information retrieval and aids the Sol Plaatje University (SPU) Library to be more digitally empowered.
Some of its features include a one-stop search for all library resources, online book loan renewals, viewing library user transactions, and easy customisation and integration with other programmes that the library plans to use in the future.
The search tool can easily be accessed from any smart device and is very user friendly. It has been described as a discovery tool of the future and a one-stop shop for academic resources.
Primo VE stands out because it gives library users access to the entire library collection on one platform – in just a few clicks.
The Library team believes that users deserve tools that make their search experience more fulfilling. They describe the tool as easy to instruct on, easy to use and understand, futurist and digitally empowered. It is a simplified searching tool that supports remote access services. It enhances services offered by the Library and Information Centre.
Dr Sabelo Chizwina, Director of SPU’s Library and Information Services, encourages the SPU Community to use the new discovery tool as soon as possible and urges those who have not used it, to do so.
The SPU Community will benefit immensely from Primo VE as it speeds up the information retrieval time and allows them to focus on their academic tasks.
