Sol Plaatje University (SPU) is pleased to invite you to join us online to watch the official launch of the SPU Sport Brand on Friday, 27 May 2022.

Since opening its doors in 2014, SPU has emphasised the importance of sports and recreation in providing a holistic student experience inside and outside the classroom, and for the general well-being of our community and residents of the Northern Cape.

SPU Sport is rooted in the belief that physical activity is vital in the development of students, so we aim to strike the right balance between academics and co-curricular programmes by providing students with academic support, leadership and development programmes, monitoring, and psycho-socio support.

The launch of the SPU Sport Brand is the next natural step in SPU’s ambition of being the destination of choice for student athletes in future. The launch follows the 2021 purchase of the Tafel Lager Stadium in Kimberley from the Griqualand West Rugby Union, which will be a key feature of the soon-to-be-opened SPU Sport Precinct.

As a young university that is rapidly making its mark on the national stage, we are excited about the launch of the SPU Sport Brand, as sport remains an important part of any nation’s psyche. A unified sports brand will help SPU expand its brand identity and foster an increased sense of sporting identity and pride among the SPU community.
