Research Enhancement Support
Sol Plaatje University (SPU) has conceptualized academic capacity development in a programmatic approach, the interventions, and initiatives of which are based on the objectives of the career path development programme. This has meant that academic staff are categorized into groups or communities of practice based on where they are in their career path. These include emerging, early career, mid-career and senior/established academics. In approaching capacity development in this way, SPU can target its development interventions. The approach has also allowed for the holistic development of the academic, with the nexus between the core activities of research and teaching being embraced and highlighted.
Conducted in conjunction with the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Programme Development (CTLPD) through the Career Path Development Office, a comprehensive academic development programme is offered. These two directorates collaborate to assist academics in progressing their careers in higher education proactively and structurally.
