SPU academic to serve on the W&RSETA Leadership Chair Governance Board

Sol Plaatje University’s  School of Economic and Management Sciences (EMS) Senior Lecturer, Dr Edward Dakora, has been appointed to serve on the Governance Board of the W&R Leadership Chair (WRLC) based in the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) for the period of 12 months from 1 June 2022 to 31 May 2023.

The WRLC is an initiative of the Wholesale and Retail Seta (W&RSETA) to support and enhance research development in the sector. The W&RSETA provides funding for the chair to administer research projects relevant to the wholesaler and retailer sectors, as to well as support postgraduate scholarships. So far only three of the W&R Leadership chairs have been established (at CPUT, DUT, and UJ).

The governance board is made up of members from industry academia, W&RSETA, and local and provincial government. The diverse nature of the governance board presents opportunities for networking and industry collaboration. The responsibilities of the governance board include providing oversight to the activities of the chair, formulating the strategic direction of the WRLC at CPUT, and approval of plans and budgets, to name a few.

Dr Dakora believes SPU’s developing academic endevour  can benefit from research projects and initiatives supported by WRLC. “My involvement provides opportunities for our university and the school (EMS) to form partnerships and collaborations with WRCL and CPUT in research, teaching, and learning. At the same time, we could participate in scholarship and international exchange programmes funded by the WRCL”, said Dr Dakora.
