The Department of Institutional Advancement (DIA) at Sol Plaatje University (SPU) has launched its first alumni newsletter, named Alumni News, aimed at connecting with the growing pool of SPU graduates. The first issue was distributed to alumni on Wednesday, 13 April 2022.

Mr Qondakele Sompondo, Director: Institutional Advancement, said this is a proud moment for the University. “In its first eight years SPU has produced over 1 100 graduates – and they represent a rapidly growing network of skilled, passionate and enthusiastic alumni who form one of SPU’s most valued stakeholder groups. We launched our Alumni Affairs Unit in SPU’s DIA in 2021 to work diligently on building and constantly strengthening SPU’s relationship with its alumni. This newsletter is one of the key communication tools, but alumni can expect to hear a lot more from their alma mater from here on out.”

The electronic newsletter is distributed to all former students who have completed a formal qualification with SPU. “Alumni News will keep our alumni informed about the most important developments related to SPU,” Sompondo said. “Not only will they stay connected with SPU, but they can also get news on the friends they made during their time at SPU, and of course one of the most valuable functions of an alumni network is connecting with other people in or outside your field who can help you in your career.”

The inaugural Alumni News issue includes articles on the pre-university placement enrichment Talent Pipeline Programme (TPP), articles introducing alumni to postgraduate life as an SPU alumnus, and news on recent developments within SPU.

Alumni can also stay up-to-date with the latest news and events from SPU by following its social media platforms on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, the MySPU app, and regularly checking SPU’s news website.
