SPU’s 5th graduation for 332 graduates

On Saturday, 14 December 2019, Sol Plaatje University held its 5th Graduation Ceremony for 332 graduates from across its four schools.

Students received certificates, diplomas or degrees from the Schools of Economic & Management Sciences, Education, Humanities and Natural & Applied Sciences.

Judge Steven Majiedt, the Chancellor of Sol Plaatje University presided over the ceremony in the Taberna Dei Hall in New Park, Kimberley.

Over 1,400 people attended this largest graduation ceremony of the University.

The outgoing Vice-Chancellor and Principal of Sol Plaatje University, Professor Yunus Ballim, was invited to give the keynote address to the graduates.

It was a bitter-sweet moment for the Sol Plaatje University community because it was also Professor Ballim’s last official engagement at the University.

Professor Ballim urged the graduates to fly the Sol Plaatje University flag high in all their future endeavours and to stay connected to the institution.

He reminded them that they were the embodiment of academic excellence, having succeeded even in the face of enormous social and economic challenges, and that they could stand tall amongst graduates from anywhere in the world.
