Transforming STEM Teacher Education in South Africa

Overview

Sol Plaatje University (SPU) is part of the Transforming STEM Teacher Education through Self-Directed Open Educational Practices (TEDSOEP) project — an international Erasmus+ initiative focused on advancing STEM education through digital innovation and open educational practices.

Running from 2025 to 2026, the project strengthens teacher education by equipping students with modern tools and approaches that respond to evolving global and local educational needs.

Project Objectives

The TEDSOEP project aims to:

  • Transform STEM teacher education using Open Educational Practices (OEPs) and Open Educational Resources (OERs)
  • Integrate emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Virtual Reality (VR) into teaching
  • Promote self-directed learning and digital competence among pre-service teachers
  • Develop innovative, sustainable teaching frameworks for diverse educational contexts
