Remain vigilant – #MySPUMySafety

To the SPU Community

In his address to the nation on Wednesday, 11 November 2020, President Ramaphosa mentioned that we are experiencing a higher than average rate of new COVID-19 infections in the Frances Baard Municipal District, which is where this university is located.

The spread of COVID-19 in the higher education sector has been a national and institutional concern in the last few weeks, with a number of institutions seeing a spike in infections. Please remain vigilant as we work towards completing the academic year. Keep yourself and others safe by playing your part in mitigating the spread of the virus. Continue to wear your masks, practice social distancing and frequent sanitising.

Please follow the protocols that are in place on campus. Ensure that you engage in similar practices in your daily lives outside of the university premises.

You will soon return to your home communities and must therefore be attentive to not spreading the infection to your family and friends.

SPU has been lauded for its management of the pandemic on campus and for being on track to complete the academic year in the next two weeks.  Let’s stay the course and finish this year by pulling together as we have over the course of the year.

Kind regards

Professor Andrew M Crouch

Vice-Chancellor and Principal
