Sol Plaatje University (SPU) Vice-Chancellor and Principal Professor Andrew Crouch has sent a message of support to the Griqualand West Rugby Union (GWRU) wishing the Windhoek Draft Griquas well ahead of their Currie Cup showdown against the Airlink Pumas.

The letter, sent to GWRU President Mr Monte Engelbrecht, expresses Prof Crouch and SPU’s excitement at the Currie Cup final returning to Kimberley 130 years after the first Currie Cup was played in the city in 1892. The match will take place on Saturday 25 June at the Windhoek Draught Park from 3pm.

“It is our fervent hope that they will hold the Currie Cup aloft as the victors… just as they did in 1970 against Northern Transvaal here in Kimberley,” Prof Crouch wrote. “The Sol Plaatje University staff and students are excited to support the Poubloues in their quest for victory. We too will be wearing our heart on our sleeves.”

SPU wishes the Griquas well!
