Eric Sibiya joins International USSA Media Team

As we continue our Youth Month focus on rising young voices, the Department of Institutional Advancement finds it both timely and significant to spotlight one of its own: Eric Sibiya, a dedicated Student Media Assistant was selected to form part of the media team for USSA, representing South Africa on an international stage at the FISU World University Games in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany, taking place from 13 to 28 July 2025.

His journey reflects what’s possible when young people are trusted, mentored and given an opportunity to grow.  He has worked tirelessly behind the lens to showcase the vibrancy, vision and values of SPU. His work spans campus life events, strategic marketing campaigns and high-profile University programmes.

“Eric’s selection is a proud and meaningful moment,” says Ms Mosima Mehlape, Manager: Communication and Marketing. “What stands out most about Eric is the passion he brings to everything he does. He writes passionately. He captures passionately. There’s detail in his work that speaks volumes and reflect his passion”.

A Bachelor of Arts student in his third year, Eric will be taking on videography and photography duties at the Games, further building on the professional skills he has honed at SPU.

As Eric steps into this global opportunity, he carries with him more than talent – he carries the discipline, attention to detail and storytelling values instilled through his work in the Department of Institutional Advancement. In doing so, he amplifies not only his own voice but the mission and commitment to excellence of Sol Plaatje University.
