Official launch of the Centre for the Advancement of Rural and Inclusive Education Research

The Faculty of Education is proud to announce the launch of the Centre for the Advancement of Rural and Inclusive Education Research (CARIER) on Wednesday, 17 September 2025.

This new centre seeks to redefine rural and inclusive education research by placing individuals’ backgrounds and lived experiences at the centre of impactful research. By recognising the diverse realities of rural communities and the need for social justice and inclusion, the Centre avoids oversimplified representations and instead tackles context-specific challenges in meaningful, supported ways.

High-quality education extends beyond the classrooms; it requires a strong foundation of impactful research. By establishing this Centre as a strategic priority, the Faculty of Education affirms its commitment to expanding universal access to quality rural and inclusive learning and cultivating globally minded citizens.

You are invited to join the official launch, streamed live on the SPU YouTube channel at 18:00 on Wednesday, 17 September 2025. Click here to attend online, https://bit.ly/47pTuft.

Teacher education is a niche area of SPU’s academic focus, and the launch of this Centre is rooted not only in shaping the future of education but also in shaping the future of education in the Northern Cape, with impact that resonates nationally and globally.

We look forward to the university community and wider public joining the launch online to witness a defining moment in teacher education research in the Northern Cape.
