The Faculty of Education will host the Second African Languages Symposium on 25 September 2026 under the theme, “African Languages and Cultural Heritage: Voices, Knowledge, and Shared Futures.”
The symposium will bring together academics, researchers, educators, language practitioners, students, policymakers and other stakeholders to explore the role of African languages in education, knowledge production, cultural preservation and social development.
Central to the symposium is the recognition that African languages are not only subjects of academic study. They are languages of knowledge, education, identity, culture and future development.
Participants will engage in conversations on how African languages can strengthen indigenous knowledge systems, amplify diverse linguistic voices and contribute to more inclusive and sustainable futures.
Through this symposium, SPU continues to celebrate, strengthen and advance African languages as vital resources for knowledge production and the preservation of cultural heritage.
