The Department of Higher Education and Training established the Entrepreneurship Development in Higher Education (EDHE) Programme towards the end of 2016. It has been funded through the University Capacity Development Programme (UCDP) and managed by Universities South Africa (USAf) since mid-2018.
The EDHE Programme is focused on three goals, each of which is aligned with a corresponding EDHE Community of Practice, i.e.:
- The development of Student Entrepreneurship, aimed at mobilising the national student and graduate resource to create successful enterprises that will ultimately lead to sustainable wealth and job creation;
- The development of Entrepreneurship in Academia, aimed at supporting academics and support professionals in instilling an entrepreneurial mindset within students through the offering of relevant knowledge, transfer of practical skills and the application of business principles across disciplines; and
- The development of entrepreneurial universities, aimed at supporting the strategic creation of university environments that are conducive to entrepreneurship and the generation of third- stream income through innovative approaches to
As part of the first goal of the development of Student Entrepreneurship, EDHE hosts an annual event in partnership with South African public universities called the Student Entrepreneurship Week (SEW).
2025 marks the eighth year of SEW and this year the event promises to be just as remarkable as it has been in the previous years.

What?
On behalf of the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development And Research (CEDAR) and The Faculty of Economics & Management Sciences (EMS), we bring you the free Sol Plaatje University Student Entrepreneurship Week (SEW) 2025 Two Day Event Celebration. This year’s SEW will be hosted under the theme of #Sustian,Scale, Succeed Building Entrepreneurial Futures for a better South Africa; with the aim of encouraging the inclusion of entrepreneurship education into the key learnings for all students to equip them with the necessary skills to become self-sustaining entrepreneurs.
