SPU accounting programme receives professional endorsement from leading accounting bodies

Sol Plaatje University (SPU) has reached an important academic milestone following the professional endorsement of its Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting by leading accounting bodies in the country, namely the South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA) and the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).

The endorsement by SAIPA affirms that the qualification meets the Institute’s academic requirements and provides graduates with a recognised pathway towards the Professional Accountant (SA) designation through SAIPA’s prescribed processes.

In addition, endorsement by SAICA affirms that the Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting provides the required academic foundation for graduates to pursue registration under the Associate General Accountant designation, subject to meeting all applicable professional requirements.

Together, these endorsements reflect the quality, relevance and rigour of the curriculum, and SPU’s ongoing commitment to aligning its academic offerings with nationally recognised professional standards. They enhance the value of the qualification, broaden professional pathways for graduates, and support graduate employability within the accounting profession, delivering qualifications that respond to evolving needs of the profession, the economy and society.

Speaking on the significance of the endorsement, Prof Pierre Joubert, Dean of the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, said: “This recognition reflects the Faculty’s deliberate focus on academic quality, professional relevance and curriculum alignment. It is important that our programmes prepare graduates not only for academic success, but for meaningful participation in the economy and in society.”
