Sol Plaatje University Rugby are having an amazing, winning season in every respect. They have landed three local sponsors, have had 4 incredible wins from their first 4 games and just received their new kit. At an event on Tuesday, 12 March 2024 they introduced their new sponsors and revealed their new kit. The Dean of Student Affairs, Ms Nicole Morris, in her keynote address, lent her full support to the SPU Rugby Team as they pursue qualification for the 2025 Varsity Shield. She thanked the sponsors, The Heights, NTLO Enterprises and Braveheart Distillery, for putting their brands behind a developing brand like SPU and helping us to create a winning culture, one that is distinct in its camaraderie, resilience and shared sense of purpose.
Mr Dirk Potgieter, Chairperson of SPU Rugby, expressed deep appreciation for the sponsors’ generous support which would advance SPU Rugby’s ambitions. He praised the team for their remarkable performance this season and attributed it to them “doing little things better.”
Mr Christo Snyman of NLTO Enterprises graciously thanked SPU for the opportunity to partner with the University and encouraged the rugby team to wear their colours with honour and pride.
The Head of SPU Rugby, Mr Ollie Mew, appealed to the SPU community to support the team in their quest to qualify for the 2025 Varsity Shield. He said that SPU Rugby was heading to a special place through their Gemmie Fire.
