The Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training (DHET), Mr Buti Manamela, conducted a ministerial oversight visit to Sol Plaatje University (SPU) on 25 February 2025to assess the state of readiness for the 2025 academic year. He was accompanied by officials from the Department of Higher Education and Training and by the COO of NSFAS, and staff from his office.
Engagements were held with the University’s Senior Management Team, and the Student Representative Council (SRC) focusing on key issues such as academic registration, student funding and accommodation.
The Deputy Minister, praised the University’s remarkable growth and development over the years. He commended the SRC on their fundraising efforts to assist students who faced financial challenges. He encouraged the University management and the SRC to continue their collaborative efforts in support of students while also creating a stable academic environment.
