Building community at SPU’s Family Fun Day

On Saturday, 7 December 2024, Sol Plaatje University (SPU) staff and their families gathered for the annual Vice-Chancellor’s Family Fun Day, a heartwarming celebration of connection, appreciation, and community spirit. Hosted on South Campus, the event offered a lively mix of activities, ensuring fun for all ages, from indigenous games to kids’ entertainment.

In his opening remarks, Vice-Chancellor Prof Andrew Crouch expressed gratitude to staff, students, and university stakeholders for their dedication and contributions to the success of 2024. Emphasising the significance of the event, he said, “This day is about families coming together to see where their spouses, fathers, mothers, sisters, and brothers work. We are here to celebrate our staff members, who are your family, and to thank you for the remarkable contributions you’ve made to our university’s growth and community impact.”  

The day featured a variety of activities, including water slides, balloon twisting, staff volleyball matches, and health screenings. Delectable treats such as ice cream, popcorn, and slush puppies added to the festive atmosphere, making the Family Fun Day a joyful and memorable experience for all who attended.
