CAHAU honours excellence at a glitzy ceremony

Sol Plaatje University’s (SPU) Campus Housing and Accommodation Unit (CAHAU) recognized and awarded students at its annual Residence Students Academic Awards Ceremony, at the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre, in Kimberley.

Addressing the audience, the Dean for Student Affairs, Ms Nicole Morris emphasised the importance of celebrating academic achievements: “It’s important to celebrate and acknowledge the hard work of students that have joined our SPU residence community. Our residences are Living and Learning Communities that form an integral part of the vibrant student life experience on campus that promotes true academic excellence. It is imperative that we acknowledge and recognize the great strides made by residence students”. Ms Morris also reflected on the support provided to students and the opportunity it presents in creating lifelong connections. This includes the support and guidance of wardens, sub-wardens, academic advisors, house committees, and health and wellness support to help students navigate their academic journey successfully.

Formal recognition of excellence serves to enhance and stimulate future academic success among the 2023 first year intake of students. Several factors, including overall average score and consistency in exceptional achievement across modules, are considered when awarding excellence.

Recipients were awarded and celebrated in the following categories:

  1. Category A: Best performing student(s) per residence
  2. Category B: Best performing student(s) per residence per year group
  3. Category C: Best performing students per School
  4. Category D: Best performing Residences
  5. Category E: Best performing student(s) across year levels, residences, and Schools

The prestigious annual CAHAU Academic Awards ceremony is a grand ceremony where students are awarded – after a rigorous assessment by a competent committee and with the necessary quality assurance. CAHAU takes pride in providing not just living spaces for students, but nurturing environments for holistic growth and learning.

Competition was tight this year, but the best of the best took awards home. And the winners were:
