
On 8 May 2025, Afrikaans marked its 100th anniversary as an official language. This campaign, led by the Afrikaans Language Council (ATR) and the Afrikaans Language Museum and Monument (ATM), is supported by a wide and representative group of Afrikaans organisations.
Building on this foundation, the Northern Cape Heritage Pioneers and the Centre for Creative Writing and African Languages at Sol Plaatje University in collaboration with the ATKV-tak Taal Trek brings the festivities to the Northern Cape under the theme, “Eeufees van Afrikaans: Van Herkoms tot Toekoms”.
The event is scheduled to take place as follows:

The celebration will include a presentation on the history of Afrikaans, a discussion about Afrikaans in the Northern Cape, roundtable discussions about the importance of the Centre for Creative Writing and African Languages.
