The 2025 Geography Festival (Geo-Fest) is a celebration of curiosity and enthusiasm for the subject of Geography as a science. Sol Plaatje University’s (SPU) Faculty of Education, in partnership with the Sentletse Foundation, is excited to host this year’s event under the theme: “Embracing My World in Its Entirety and All Its Diversity.” The festival will take place on Saturday, 16 August 2025, from 09:00 to 15:30, at the SPU Central Campus.
Geo-Fest aims to reposition Geography as a science subject of choice by providing a platform for high school learners to showcase their talent through engaging competitions.
This year’s event will feature learners from various schools across the Northern Cape coming together to celebrate Geography in a unique and interactive way.
Grade 11 learners will exhibit self-constructed geographical models, while Grade 10 learners will present on selected Geography topics. These exhibitions and talks are designed to encourage knowledge-sharing and deepen understanding of key concepts in the subject.
The festival will also offer learners the opportunity to immerse themselves in a university environment, helping them visualise their own academic journeys. At the end of the day, outstanding learners and schools will be recognised with certificates and trophies in honour of their efforts and creativity.
Geo-Fest highlights the relevance and application of Geography, inspiring the next generation to explore its potential both academically and as a future career path.
