In celebration of Mandela Day 2026, Enactus Sol Plaatje University (SPU), in partnership with EduAccess, the Student Women Economic Empowerment Project (SWEEP) and the SPU Young Builders Movement, dedicated 67 minutes of service to making a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable children.
In the weeks leading up to Mandela Day, Enactus SPU and EduAccess coordinated a clothing donation drive, encouraging members of the University community and the public to donate clothing for children and youth in need. At the same time, SWEEP collected sanitary towels to support the health and dignity of young girls, while the Young Builders Movement provided freshly prepared hot dogs for the children during the outreach.
The donated clothing was distributed to Sinothando Kids Haven and Bophelo Child and Youth Care Centre, providing much-needed support to children in the care of these organisations. Together, the various contributions reflected the spirit of compassion, collaboration and community service that lies at the heart of Mandela Day.
Beyond the distribution of donations, Enactus SPU members spent time engaging with the children through a variety of interactive activities, including games, conversations and recreational activities. The day created opportunities for meaningful engagement, bringing joy to the children while reinforcing the importance of giving back to the community.
Enactus SPU and EduAccess expressed their sincere appreciation to SPU students and members of the community who generously supported the clothing donation drive. Special appreciation was also extended to the initiative’s sponsors, Romans Pizza (Galeshewe), Krispy King and GoZone, whose contributions helped make the day a memorable experience for the children.
Mandela Day continues to serve as a reminder that lasting change begins with simple acts of kindness and service. By dedicating 67 minutes to uplifting others, volunteers honoured the legacy of the late President Nelson Mandela while strengthening community partnerships and inspiring hope among those they served.
Through initiatives such as these, Enactus SPU continues to advance the University’s commitment to social innovation, community engagement and responsible citizenship, demonstrating the positive impact that collaborative action can have in transforming lives.
