Enhancing campus safety: Launch of the SPU-SAPS Campus Safety Desk

We are excited to announce the launch of the Sol Plaatje University (SPU) and the South African Police Service (SAPS) Campus Safety Desk on 27 and 26 March 2024 at the South Campus Multipurpose Hall. This initiative is a result of our ongoing commitment to ensuring a safe and secure campus for our entire SPU community.

The Campus Safety programme, a collaboration between SPU, SAPS, and other key partners, aims to bolster our campus security and provide a safer living, learning and working environment for all. The launch will unveil the SPU-SAPS Campus Safety Desk and introduce the SPU Sector Crime Forum, an initiative designed to foster continuous dialogue and partnership in crime prevention and safety enhancement.

Why is this significant for us?

The launch represents a collective step forward in addressing the growing concerns about campus safety. By strengthening our collaboration with SAPS and other stakeholders, we aim to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff which is essential for creating an environment conducive to teaching, learning, research, and personal growth. A safe campus fosters trust and confidence among members of the university community, allowing them to focus on their academic and professional pursuits without fear or distraction, also enhancing the university’s reputation and attractiveness to prospective students, parents, and employees.

We’re inviting the public to join the two-day programme by livestreaming the event on the official SPU YouTube channel.

We look forward to you joining in on what promises to be a memorable and significant occasion in the history of Sol Plaatje University.
