The Sol Plaatje University, IFAS–Recherche and Wits University Press have the pleasure of inviting you to the launch of a new book on rock art VISIONARY ANIMAL Rock Art from Southern Africa
Visionary Animal is a rich collection of essays on San rock art from across southern Africa and illustrated with more than 140 photos taken by the author, Renaud Ego during his field research in Botswana, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
He examined some of the world’s finest rock art in order to answer two central questions; Why were depictions of animals a crucial trigger for the birth of art? And why did animals dominate that art for so long?
Poet, novelist and essayist Renaud Ego is a French specialist in southern African rock art, which he has studied for the past twenty years.
Renaud Ego will present the book followed by a discussion with Prof Yunus Ballim (Vice-Chancellor of Sol Plaatje University), and rock art specialists, Prof David Morris and Dr Lourenço Pinto (both from Sol Plaatje University).
