Sol Plaatje University (SPU) is proud to be the hosts of the University Sports South Africa (USSA) men’s and women’s Rugby Sevens Championships from 20 to 25 September 2022.

In a series of competitive rugby matches, South African university students  as well as BOTESSA students from Botswana, will gather at the SPU Sports Campus Fields and Windhoek Draught Park in Kimberley.

There are seven players on each team, and each half lasts a mere seven minutes, making each match electrifying and fast paced. Spectators love the game’s unusual format, and painted faces and wigs and outlandish outfits are the norm at Rugby Sevens matches. Gemmie, the SPU Mascot, is sure to join the fun and keep spirits high.

A dazzling opening ceremony will accompany the championship, as well as a night run:

  • SPU Campus Night 5km Race on 20 September 2022 at 18H00
  • Opening Ceremony of Teams on 23 September 2022 at 17H00
  • Rugby 7s Championships on 23 and 24 September 2022, 09H00-17H00 daily
