The SPU Library and Information Services invite applications for four Student Assistant positions to support evening operations in the library.
This opportunity is ideal for postgraduate students who would like to gain practical work experience while contributing to student support services on campus.
Requirements
Applicants must:
Be a registered postgraduate student at Sol Plaatje University
Have good academic performance at 3rd year level (added advantage)
Have knowledge of academic databases such as EBSCOhost and ScienceDirect
Be able to locate and shelve books accurately within the library collection
Be able to search and navigate discovery tools such as Primo
Have strong written and verbal communication skills
Be digitally literate, including the ability to manage chat and email queries
Be able to work collaboratively in a team environment
Demonstrate strong customer service orientation
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful applicants will be required to:
- Issue, return and renew books and journals using the library system
- Assist with processing new library materials
- Shelve returned and used books to maintain an organised collection
- Assist students with basic information and library-related queries
- Support students in using library tools and systems, including discovery tools, LibGuides and the self-check system
- Promote library services and resources to fellow students
- Assist with booking library venues and study spaces
- Comply with health and safety regulations and procedures
- Participate in library training and development initiatives
