In commemorating the 2023 Youth Day, the Sol Plaatje University (SPU) Communication and Marketing unit collaborated with the 2022/2023 Student Representative Council (SRC) as key youth representatives of the University, to be part of the youth day social media messaging campaign on 16 June.
The SRC members reflected on and shared their thoughts about Youth Day, speaking to the 2023 Youth Day national theme: “Accelerating youth economic emancipation for a sustainable future”. Based on the national theme, the SRC wrote distinctive quotes touching on various subjects tailored to the SPU context and that of the greater youth in the province and country. The key subjects included:
- Economic freedom in 2023
- Youth voices in post-democratic institution SPU
- Commemoration of the 47 years since the 1976 student uprising
- Rights and responsibilities of Youth Today to ensure a better future tomorrow
- Messages of support based on individual journeys and breaking generational barriers
- Message of encouragement and thanks to leaders of note who enabled the privileges we have today
- How to create a stance movement to bring positive impact, change and be the pioneers of change to bring light from Africa for humanity
