Year-end message from the Vice-Chancellor and Principal Designate

As we reach the end of 2025, I extend my sincere appreciation to the SPU community for the support, dedication and care you have shown throughout the year. As a university that carries the name of Solomon Tshekisho Plaatje, our namesake guides us, and we uphold justice, intellect and service in all that we do.

Rooted in the Northern Cape yet connected to the world, our work has generated knowledge that supports communities and strengthens our national and global relevance. Thank you for your commitment, which has enabled us to move forward with integrity and shared purpose.

As we prepare for 2026, we remain focused on deepening academic excellence, expanding our research output and strengthening partnerships that support our long-term sustainability. These collaborations will enhance SPU’s visibility, relevance and impact, and reflect our collective responsibility to advance the mission of this institution.

I wish you and your families a peaceful and restorative festive season and look forward to continuing this journey with you in the new year. In 2026 we will continue to pursue excellence, uphold our values and build a future worthy of our community and our country.
