Appointment of Professor Boitumelo Molebogeng Diale as Dean of Education

Sol Plaatje University is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Boitumelo Molebogeng Diale as the Dean of Education, effective from 1 October 2024.

Prof Diale brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this position. She has been a Full Professor in the Department of Psychology of Education at the University of South Africa since March 2024 and is a C2-rated NRF researcher. Her extensive leadership roles at the University of Johannesburg over the past ten years include serving as the Master’s Programme Coordinator (2014-2016), Head of the Department of Educational Psychology (2017-2021), and Vice Dean of Teaching and Learning (2021-2022). These roles have demonstrated her exceptional leadership abilities and unwavering commitment to academic excellence.

In addition to her academic and leadership roles, Prof Diale is a registered Educational Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa and has a practice at the Clinix Tshepo Themba Private Hospital in Soweto. She has also been an employee wellness practitioner for 19 years. Her areas of academic specialization include career psychology and career transitioning, neurodiversity, sexuality studies, and life orientation. In 2022, she established the Centre for Neurodiversity at the University of Johannesburg’s Soweto Campus, reflecting her dedication to advancing inclusive education.

Prof Diale has held prominent positions in various professional organizations, including serving as the former president and deputy president of the convocation at the University of Johannesburg. She has chaired the South African Career Development Association and the South African College of Applied Psychology Academic Board and continues to serve as a board member for both organizations. She has also been a visiting Professor at the University of Nigeria Nsukka since 2019.

Her contributions to academia and society have been recognized through several awards and honours. In 2022, Prof Diale was a finalist for the Fabulous Woman Awards. She recently received a certificate of recognition from Higher Education Resource Services South Africa as a finalist in the Humanitarian Category of the Higher Education Women Leaders Awards 2023 at their inaugural awards ceremony in Cape Town.
