Kimberley’s own Nosipho Khumari, a student at Sol Plaatje University, has been selected to represent South Africa at the upcoming Confederation of Universities and Colleges Sports Association (CUCSA) Region V Games.

The highly anticipated football tournament is set to kick off on July 8, at the Tshwane University of Technology.

Khumari’s journey to this prestigious selection has been marked by dedication and a series of impressive achievements. Hailing from Lerato Park, Roodepan, the young athlete has been passionate about football since she started playing at the age of 12.

“I started playing soccer at the age of 12, which was in 2012; I was playing for Young Achievers,” Khumari shared with the DFA. “Then in 2013, I made it to the FNB Under-15 squad when I got my first award as the top goal scorer.”

Nosipho’s talent continued to flourish as she moved on to play for Royal Wizards in the Sasol League competition in 2017.

By 2019, Khumari had made it to the Under-19 squad of the Northern Cape, participating in the national play-offs in Pretoria and Johannesburg. She continued her streak of excellence, making it to the Sasol National Play-offs in Durban in 2022 and Bloemfontein in 2023, where she consistently demonstrated her goal-scoring prowess.

In 2023, Khumari’s skills earned her a spot on the University Sports South Africa team representing Sol Plaatje University. Competing in Section B at the University of the Western Cape, she was named the top goal scorer, helping her team secure second place in their stream.

This year, she also participated in the inter-varsity tournament at North West University, where her team won silver medals.

Khumari expressed her aspirations to the DFA: “My goal is to play for Banyana Banyana or a top female team in Spain or Germany,” she said. And looking at what she’s achieved thus far, her relentless drive and impressive track record suggest that these dreams are well within her reach.

As Khumari prepares to showcase her talent on the international stage at the CUCSA Region V Games, her community and university stand behind her, proud of her accomplishments and cheering her on to even greater heights.
